Project „AirShield“ is a joint project of the research program of the Federal German government to protect critical infrastructures and the population. The project uses Unmanned Air Systems (UAS) equipped with gas sensors and artificial intelligence for civil protection purposes. As a reference for the acceptance of AirShield-UAS among potential users and the population, the acceptance of a Police application of UAS for video surveillance purposes is investigated in the project as well. UAV technology got a high approval from sample users and the sample public (both 73%). Its police application for video surveillance purposes in principle still was accepted by 60%, while only 43% of potentially affected people showed their acceptance. The recognition of abuse and reconnaissance effects was considered almost equal
