The presented text is an analysis, that was carried out by the Department for Criminological Research and Criminal Statistics of the State CID of Lower Saxony. It is based on data regarding the perception and rating of police in Hannover- Linden, collected in line with the EU project “Planning urban Security”. The positive public image of police found in other studies was principally supported by the data. Nonetheless the analysis showed results that differ from older findings. For example, according to our data people who have had contact with the police or been victimised do not tend to rate police differently than people without such experiences.
