Title:
Climate Change as a Security Issue

Abstract:
Due to anthropogenic climate change, extreme weather events such as heat waves, droughts, storms, storm surges, floods, landslides and avalanches are increasing. Developing countries, in particular, are vulnerable since they have hardly any intervention strategy to mitigate the impact of these environmental stressors. The resulting potential for conflict is one of the major security policy challenges of the 21st century. As the main producers of greenhouse gases, the industrialized countries are also mainly responsible for climate change. Taking action is a complex and multi-layered task and requires rethinking on the part of society as a whole.
