Title:
Psychological specifics of learning in the police use-of-force training – Chances to change established patterns of behaviour by training under stress

Abstract:
The use-of-force training in the further education of police officers has to develop skills and abilities to tackle complex situations during police operations. In most of these situations the police officers have to act under a high degree of stress. Hence, the use-of-force training has to prepare the police officers for acting secure under pressure as well as under the highest amount of stress. This paper explains the neuropsychological fundamentals of the learning processes of adults. Based on these psychological fundamentals and the experiences made in a police training program called “Interface Police Response Driving” this article shows possibilities to change established patterns of behaviour by training under stress.
