Title:
Lüchow-Dannenberg effect – Police overhang increases police registered crime

Abstract:
With the help of a comparative population survey in the administrative district Lüchow-Dannenberg and in total Germany can be shown that the police-stated criminal activity after the police criminal statistics lies for the administrative district Lüchow-Dannenberg one quarter above the criminal activity height which arises from dark field questioning. Reason is that the police density in Lüchow-Dannenberg is about a quarter higher than the average police density. Similar is the lower police registered crime rate in Austria (6225 cases per 100 000 inhabitants in comparison to 7530 in Germany) explained by the lower police density in Austria (323 policemen per 100 000 inhabitants in Austria and 384 in Germany)
