The effects of age limits in the context of lifelong learning as a criterion for access and professional advancement by the example of the police department of Berlin

Abstract:
Recruiting for the public sector becomes more and more difficult in view of the demographic change and is a challenge for human resource management. In this context, how do the age limits effect the recruiting and the career advancement of the elder employees? Do they correspond with the current legal situation? This article analyses both the age limits from a legal and a demographic perspective using the example of the police department of Berlin and presents solution approaches. Its major focus is on the perspectives of recruitment and human resource development.
