Title:
Vigilantes in Saxony - On the formation of vigilante groups and their prerequisites using the example of Saxony

Abstract:
The topic of vigilante groups gained increased media attention last year. But what makes a group of people into vigilantes is still unclear. This text tries, in the first part, to develop a definition of vigilante groups on the basis of empirical evidence from Saxony. The second part analyses possible requirements for their emergence. Due to the different forms of government it is difficult to find a globally valid explanation of the phenomenon. The text allows for this by including practical examples from Saxony so that most of the German specifics are involved.
