The image of the police in the eyes of German students
Abstract:
This study is based on a survey of first-year students regarding their image of policepersons and their behaviour intentions towards the police The results are contrasted with the students’ image of university professors and politicians Overall, the image of and the behaviour intentions towards the police are positive A differentiation of the results according to respondents’ attributes show that highly authoritarian participants consider the police to be warmer compared to low authoritarian ones High dominance-oriented respondents (compared to low dominance-oriented ones) devaluate the competence of the police and express the intention to actively harm the police Practical recommendations derived from the results are discussed.
