Abstract:
Police interactions with individuals with mental disorders are increasing Research shows that the presence of a mental disorder is associated with a higher risk for detention and police use of force However, police use of force increases the risk for traumatic stress disorders for policemen This contribution reviews three different concepts for police edÂucation and police work which can increase safety for all parties involved The concept of anti-stigma interventions, crisis intervention team training and street triage are outlined and discussed
