Title:
Next Generation Prüm – New Developments in the Exchange of Information between European Law Enforcement Officials

Abstract:
The project „Next Generation Prüm“ (Prüm.ng) opens a new chapter in the field of information exchange between European law enforcement officials. Until now the exchange of data pursuant to the Prum Council Decisions has been limited to DNA, fingerprint and vehicle registration data. Prüm.ng aims to introduce facial images in order for European Member States to be able to conduct automated searches with the help of face recognition software. Furthermore, Prüm.ng seeks to establish interoperability between certain EU information systems. This article examines these latest developments and puts them into context of the Schengen Agreement, the Prum Council Decisions and the Swedish Initiative. Moreover, this article touches upon the post Bexit information exchange with the United Kingdom.
