Title:
Police Racism in France and Germany: Occupational Socialisation and Institutional Guidelines

Abstract:
The article deals with the issue of police racism and shows how everyday dynamics of racialization are framed by the professional experiences of French and German police officers. Using comparative field surveys in both countries, the article shows how the professional socialization of police officers produces racialized patterns of perception. Despite these common patterns, the concrete practices of French and German police forces differ: German police officers tend to be less prone to discrimination than their French counterparts. The article explains this discrepancy.
