Opportunities of participatory research in the police using the example of a research project on the empowerment of police leadership

The article is dedicated to the possibilities and methodological challenges of participation research based on a research project on the „empowerment of police leadership“. On the one hand, participatory approaches can contribute to examining police actions towards certain groups of people in order to promote police self-understanding and actions as well as intercultural sensitivity in everyday police actions. On the other hand, they offer the opportunity to reflect internally on police actions in order to research institutional conditions and perspectives, such as hierarchical structures of action and negotiation processes between managers and employees, in order to contribute to a systemic and science-based police organizational development.
