Title:
Why Sociology? What Police might learn from social sciences - and what not
Abstract:
This article examines the contradictory role of sociology in police training. On the one hand, it is often rejected by leaders, yet on the other hand, it is an integral part of police training. The article examines whether the concept of „social action“ has mistakenly led sociology to be considered a secular ethic, or whether it was introduced to maintain the social status quo or as a management theory. Viewed as a real world science (in contrast to formal science) that analyzes social structures, sociology is indeed relevant to police work.
