Title:
Reflections on the promotion of application-oriented social skills in police studies

Abstract:
Police work involves working with many - sometimes very different - people in a wide variety of situations. This is why social skills are an essential part of the skills profile of the police. Accordingly, training and university studies for prospective police officers must be clearly geared towards this: police candidates must be equipped with this high level of social skills. This is also explicitly addressed and attempted in the courses of study at police academies. But how effectively this is done is open to debate. The article provides suggestions for integrating more implicit and significantly more intensive methods for promoting this key qualification into the degree courses in addition to the explicit courses.
