Title:
Digital police training. How effective are tablet PCs and smartphones in supporting police trainees?

Abstract:
The study examines the impact of comprehensive digital equipment in Bavarian police training on learning processes and media competencies. Since 2020, all training sites have been equipped with digital boards, convertibles, and smartphones. Over two and a half years, 699 trainees were accompanied. The results show a significant increase in active, constructive, and interactive learning methods. Convertibles were mainly used in classroom instruction, while smartphones were primarily used in practical training. Media competencies, especially in critical-reflective areas, improved. Overall, digitalization led to higher motivation, greater personal responsibility, and more intensive cooperation. The article emphasizes that technological equipment alone is not sufficient – didactically sound integration of digital media and the development of media and AI competencies are crucial.
