Title:
The role of social influence in police de-escalation training

Abstract:
Police officers learn to resolve conflicts in the field through communication during their training and continuing education. This training typically involves learning de-escalation techniques. However, attitude and motivation also appear to be important factors in behaviour in the field. This study therefore examines which social influences could be relevant to de-escalation behaviour among new recruits. It shows that practical trainers serve as role models in particular. It also considers what new recruits learn from them.
