Title:
The primacy of politics and the Berlin police
Abstract:
The police response to politically motivated crime (PMK) – both right-wing and left-wing – is a key issue in the government's security policy work. The article, based on a bachelor's thesis in Department 5 of the Berlin School of Economics and Law, discusses possible indications of the extent to which government work implies politically and ideologically motivated influence on the nature and scope of measures to combat politically motivated crime. To this end, a comprehensive analysis was conducted of the coalition agreements and parliamentary documentation of the Berlin House of Representatives for the 17th and 18th legislative periods, as well as relevant publications by the Senate Department for the Interior and Sports. The analysis shows that there are no clear signs of politically motivated influence and that security policy measures perceived as such during the period under review appear to have been primarily reactive to specific individual events.
